AccuCorrect Blounts Brace

Another exclusive Freedom Fabrication device. The AccuCorrect Blounts Brace corrects abnormal bowing of the legs (tibia vara), commonly called Blounts Disorder, by isolating the torsional force directly at the proximal third of the tibia.

The custom-to-cast AccuCorrect Blounts Brace is a low-cost, easy-to-fit solution, and a very safe and inexpensive alternative to tibial osteotomy surgery.

It’s light weight open design makes this orthosis comfortable to wear without sacrificing function. It works by pressing against the fibula, effecting one side of the epiphyseal plate (growth plate), which influences the tibia to grow in the desired direction.

Other braces that claim to help children with Blounts negatively affect the knee, by opening up the medial space of the knee joint. After prolonged wear, they show correction in the photographs, but an x-ray will show that all they’ve done is influence the two bones to move apart. Now the patient has two problems, blounts disease, and genuvalgum (knock knees).

Rather than trying to realign the two bones, the AccuCorrect Blounts Brace influences the growth of the bone into a proper direction. It isolates the knee joint so there’s no pressure on the knee joint itself. All the pressure is below the knee joint on the lateral aspect of the tibia, so it influences the bone to grow in the desired direction.
